About Me
Alyssa Cruz - PASTRY CHEF, BAKER
Hello! My name is Alyssa Cruz, and I was born and raised on Long Island. I've been baking professionally for the past 6 years, and I've been loving every moment. Since a very young age baking has been a part of my life. My mother is a graduate of the prestigious Culinary Institute of America, and watching her in the kitchen ultimately sparked my interest in the Culinary world. While in Kindergarten it was my turn for VIP day, which was a day our parents came into class to speak about their respective careers. My mother, having worked in New York City as a Grade Manger Chef, decided to make a large platter for my classmates and teacher. This platter was no ordinary platter as it had birds made of apples and pears, roses out of tomatoes, and a vase with flowers made entirely of vegetables.
Fast forward 13 years, and I found myself in Nursing school as I chose the medical field out of High School. Since that VIP day, however, I developed a passion for baking and loved experimenting to make all types of sweet treats. My family, mostly my uncle who named me "Flour Child', always advised me to follow my passion for baking and after one year of Nursing school I decided to follow my passion and apply to The Culinary Institute of America.
Upon being accepted to the CIA I completed a 6-month internship and was off to start my new journey. I completed two years and received my Associates Degree in Baking & Pastry Arts. I then went on to get my Bachelors degree in Food Business Management with a concentration in Advanced Baking & Pastry Concepts. During these studies I traveled to Italy with a group of classmates to study Italian culture and cuisine. I also had the opportunity to complete my advanced Baking & Pastry concepts concentration in Napa Valley, California.
It's been quite a journey, but I wouldn't have done it any other way. The encouragement and support that I've gotten from family and friends has meant the world to me. Thank you to all my supporters, I wouldn't be where I am today without you!
